Looking at that beautiful brass platter, and solid plinth, you instantly know that Technics has taken its long experience with creating vibration-rejecting turntables and distilled that into some seriously high-end design.

The Technics SL-1300G features Technics’ renowned -Drive (Delta-Sigma), a new motor drive technology that delivers high rotational accuracy and low vibration. Speed inconsistencies are one of the most noticeable artifacts of vinyl playback, and vibration is a detail killer, so eliminating these immediately elevates sonic performance. In the SL-1300G, the new motor, three-layer platter, and high-rigidity chassis ensure excellent speed accuracy resulting in more immersion and emotion, and vanishingly low vibration, ensuring that the stylus can pick up even the tiniest details.

Coreless Direct Drive

Traditional motors have an iron core that spins in a magnetic field, and as each arm of the core hits the nearest magnetic field, it accelerates slightly and then slows down as it leaves. This results in a jerky rotation that’s known as cogging. Iron cores are an older solution, and a coreless motor eliminates this by supporting the coils in a non-magnetic structure that offers silky smooth and eevn rotation.

You will instantly hear this in “decays”, for example when a piano note is struck and allowed to resonate, a speed stable turntable will not exhibit wow and flutter as that note fades away.

Technics also uses a twin-rotor construction that reduces the bearing load while maintaining high torque, and this overall lower stress reduces minute vibrations during rotation. To improve rigidity, the same reinforcement pattern as the Reference Class SL-1000R/SP 10R was used for the coil mounting base.

High-Speed Power

Modern high-quality switching power supplies eliminate the high-frequency noise associated with cheaper supplies, especially the ones known as “wall warts”. A properly designed audio-grade switching power supply ensures a stable supply, and less ripple and hum than even toroidal supplies.

Technics uses a switching power supply for the SL-1300G, eliminating the large, heavy transformer and the heavy and expensive countermeasures to reduce its mechanical vibrations. A switching frequency of above 100 kHz limits the impact of noise on the music playback bandwidth.

High-Precision Tonearm

The tonearm uses a lightweight, rigid aluminum tube in the traditional static-balance universal S-shape. Featuring a gimbal suspension and high-precision bearing, it achieves high initial-motion sensitivity through manual assembly by skilled Japanese artisans. This meticulous construction ensures accurate tracing of record grooves. Plus, it includes an auxiliary weight, providing flexibility for a variety of cartridges.
