JBL 2446H Compression Driver 4″ Titanium Diaph-8 Ohms

The model 2446H/J is a professionalquality high-frequency compressiondriver that incorporates JBLs newly developed Coherent Wave phasingplug as well as a pure titanium diaphragm with radial ribs and patentedthree-dimensional diamond patternsuspension.

The Coherent Wave phasing plugassembly consists of four die-castannular aperture structures of constant path length to provide m-phasecombining of diaphragm output at thedrivers exit. This optimized configuration allows coherent summation ofacoustical power up to much higherfrequencies than afforded by earlierdesigns.

The diaphragm design includesJBLs exclusive three-dimensionaldiamond pattern surround1 whichreduces membrane stresses in thediaphragm support structure andextends diaphragm life. The depth ofthe diamond pattern is closely controlled during the manufacturingprocess to provide predictable frequencies for the 2nd and 3rd normalresonance modes and for the basicsuspension resonance mode. Thediaphragm also incorporates a seriesof embossed radial reinforcing ribsthat increase diaphragm stiffness. Thisdiaphragm, when combined withthe Coherent Wave phasing plug,increases the 2446H/Js output inthe 5 kHz to 20 kHz range.

High temperature voice coil former materials and adhesives enable the 2446H/J to handle extremely high powerlevels over extended periods of time. The voice coilsthemselves are identical to previous JBL models, so thatimpedance and network matching will be the same. Aftermanufacture, the frequency response of each driver istested for conformity to JBLs rigid performance standards.The model 2446H/J is ruggedly constructed to withstandthe rigors of both fixed and transportable commercialapplications. All cast parts and machined tolerances areheld to the same levels traditionally associated with JBLdesigns. The JBL manufacturing process also permits theuse of rim centered rather than pin mounted diaphragms,for instant interchangeability and ease of field service.
