At the heart of the PS1K are two 13-inch woofers featuring McIntosh’s proprietary Low Distortion High Performance (LD/HP) Magnetic Circuit Design. This technology significantly reduces distortion while enhancing power handling and efficiency. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) has been employed to optimize these drivers, ensuring extreme linearity and minimal distortion. The woofers incorporate multi-layer carbon fiber cones with integrated voice coil joints, providing exceptional rigidity and preventing flexing even during extended excursions.
Each woofer is driven by a dedicated 500-watt Class D amplifier, combining to deliver up to 1,000 watts of total output. These amplifiers are meticulously calibrated to minimize distortion, producing tight, clear bass that can effortlessly fill large listening spaces. The woofers are mounted above the amplifier module, which features a power output meter to display the PS1Ks total output. The enclosure boasts a nearly 1.5-inch thick baffle to ensure rigidity and minimize vibration, while the sealed box design eliminates port noise, resulting in a cleaner bass response.
The PS1K offers a range of connection options, including balanced stereo inputs and outputs, as well as balanced and unbalanced subwoofer inputs and outputs, facilitating seamless integration into both two-channel stereo and multi-channel home theater systems. Daisy-chaining capabilities allow for the incorporation of multiple PS1K units in a single setup. Built-in filtering controls, such as adjustable Low Pass and High Pass filters, enable you to fine-tune the crossover frequency. Additionally, two fully adjustable parametric EQ filters help mitigate the effects of room acoustics and speaker placement, while Level Control and Phase adjustment knobs ensure harmonious blending with your existing audio system.
McIntosh prioritizes the longevity of your audio investment by incorporating key protection technologies into the PS1K. Power Guard monitors the audio input signal and makes near-instantaneous adjustments to prevent harsh clipping without compromising sound quality. Sentry Monitor, a fuse-less short-circuit protection system, disconnects the amplifiers output stage before current levels become unsafe and automatically resets when conditions normalize, ensuring reliable, long-term performance.
With a high-gloss black finish, carbon trim, and aluminum base, the PS1K complements McIntosh’s XRT2.1K and XRT1.1K speakers, creating a cohesive visual aesthetic.
